Virginia Wright-Frierson

VIRGINIA WRIGHT-FRIERSON writes and illustrates children’s books about nature. A Desert Scrapbook, An Island Scrapbook, and A North American Rain Forest Scrapbook have won awards from CBC, NSTA, and NCTE, among others; and all three are listed as Outstanding Nature Books for Young Readers by the John Burroughs Association.

Her newest project is an app-picture book, Sleighbear, the sensitive and humorous story of a bear who yearns to fly and her friendships, perseverance and ingenuity. This interactive story has soft watercolor illustrations, a Sleighbear song (sung by Frierson’s granddaughter, Eleanor, who also provides Sleighbear’s voice), animation and sound effects. The book reads aloud in either Spanish or English, or can be read by a parent or sibling. Available from the App Store or Google Play.
